Two demigods, one impossible rescue: descend into Tartarus, come back with a Titan and your own demons.
Who drives the story
Son of Hades, survivor of Tartarus, the boy everyone assumed belonged to the dark. He wants to save Bob without losing himself, and he learns he is more than his darkness.
Son of Apollo, a healer who fears the Underworld and fears losing Nico to it. He discovers light powers, then discovers his own darkness — and plague powers to match.
A Titan who chose kindness and paid with his life. Nyx wants to force him back into being Iapetus; he refuses, and his refusal is the quest's whole reason.
Primordial goddess of night who builds a trap out of Nico's own shadows. She believes darkness is a home; the book proves her wrong.
Nico's distant father, who engineered the prophecy and the dream from behind the scenes. He finally tells his son he is proud.
Also in the story
Bob's saber-toothed skeleton cat, the quest's small loyal constant. He brings the news that no giant rescue is coming.
Queen of the Underworld who catches Will stealing and responds with wisdom instead of wrath. Her advice reframes the entire quest.
