One day, one duel, and the fate of Roshar hangs on a broken man's oath.
Who drives the story
The Blackthorn turned bondsmith, who gambled the world on a contest with Odium and lost the gamble but not himself. Deceived, he ascends anyway, takes up the full power of Honor, and reforges the Oathpact on his own terms.
A Windrunner crushed by grief for his father Lirin and his own past failures, assigned to guard Dalinar. Breaking the contest's rules to protect a falling man, he finally speaks the Fifth Ideal — and disarms Odium's champion without killing him.
A Lightweaver who works the Ghostblood conspiracy with Adolin and Pattern, uncovering Mraize's hidden message and her contact with the Sleepless. She kills Mraize in his own hideout and writes to Jasnah revealing the Voidbringers' true origin.
A Skybreaker of the Fifth Ideal sent by Nale to enforce the contest's law, haunted by his past and forced to choose between duty and conscience when Nightblood consumes his Stormlight. He seeks redemption in Shinovar and vows to destroy the Honorblades.
A scholar-queen who weaponizes anti-Stormlight against the Everstorm, knowing the device could destroy as easily as protect. It works — at the cost of the Sibling's strength and Urithiru's power.
Shallan's husband and a duelist at heart, leading the Edgedancers to rescue civilians in the collapsing Plains. His duel with the Fused Leshwi teaches him the Fused were once human, betrayed long ago by the Heralds.
