An assassin returns as a queen to burn a tyrant's empire down.
Who drives the story
The lost queen of Terrasen, trained as assassin Celaena Sardothien. She returns to Rifthold to destroy the King of Adarlan, reclaim her identity, and free magic — no matter the cost.
A Fae warrior and Aelin's carranam, her magical kin. He trains her, grounds her, and fights beside her when she finally claims her power.
Former Captain of the Guard, torn between loyalty to his king and love for Aelin. His judgment of her past nearly costs them everything.
Crown prince of Adarlan, possessed by a Valg demon. His quiet strength and raw magic make his rescue the book's emotional climax.
The King of the Assassins who raised, trained, and betrayed Aelin. His death in his own office is the book's coldest, most satisfying reckoning.
Heir of the Blackbeak witch clan, overseeing the king's wyvern program. Her bond with Abraxos plants the first seeds of doubt about her grandmother's orders.
Aelin's cousin and general, tortured and nearly executed before she saves him. He kneels to her as queen and brings the North's rebel army.
A courtesan and shapeshifter forced into service by Arobynn. She becomes Aelin's spy and ally, proving herself in ghost leopard form.
